Mission

The name COIRE (pronounced coh-EER) comes from the Latin coire, meaning “to unite.” It reflects our founding belief: the exploitation of animals, the denial of human equality, and harm to the natural world are not separate fights. They are one.

We cover injustice in all its forms, but animals occupy a central place in our reporting. Few subjects face cruelty this severe or this systemic, with no legal standing, no political representation, and no voice of their own. Reducing such suffering is a large part of why this work exists.

The systems behind these harms are usually the same: built on extraction, enabled by failures of accountability, and sustained by silence. Our reporting seeks to expose this. We focus on where harm occurs, who is responsible, and let the evidence speak for itself.

Our reporting is free to access, with no paywalls or advertisers. As an independent nonprofit newsroom and registered 501(c)(3), we hold allegiance only to the public, and to the stories that deserve to be told.
